How to set up GMB before you Optimize it

Local SEO 1 min read

Objective: Offering a quick guide of setting up local business listings.

Why: Getting on the map lets nearby folks find your business on their own - and because you deserve to get people to find you.

GOOGLE:
They Type in “Business in city”. Easiest place to get setup is just to be there. Up to three people are in this “map pack”. If you’re there, you’re there.

Trying to get a GMB setup for your small biz?

To get to these local citations you need to tell google you exist and have a real address that they can pin on the map.

Ideally, you want to set up as many as you can, with the same NAP (Name, Address, Phone Number) listed on all of them. It’s in your long term interest to add a clickable link to your website, and this is a powerful way to get yourself to appear.

Really quick stuff. Don’t pay me to do this for you, it takes 15 minutes to fill the form.

Claim your listing, and it asks you for a physical address. Thats the NAP part.

You can also download the GMB app on your phones and do it that way.

You’ll get an official envelope from Google with a number. Put that in the app or on the site.

You’re now approved.

This is what I see. Trickle of people coming in that see me, give me calls, give my brand views.

Even those with us in regulated industries, you can put up pictures or write a post.
Don’t run ads. Just stick to posting comments and details.

A GMB is a great addition to your strategy. Comes with data built in. You can write case studies (like I did) or publish BNI writings and notes of your ideal client.
